The Sarus Crane is a large non-migratory crane and the tallest flying bird in the world. It is a long-legged, long-necked grey bird with a bright red head. They are known to mate for life with a single partner and maintain territories within which they perform territorial and courtship displays. The main threat to the Sarus crane in India is habitat loss and degradation due to draining of wetlands and conversion of land for agriculture.
