Pied Kingfisher, also known as Lesser Pied Kingfisher, is a small sized bird and probably the only kingfisher which has just two colours – black and white. It is this plumage, a small crest and the art of hovering over clear lakes and rivers before diving for fish makes it very easy to identify. They perch on the sides of streams on waterside vegetation to conserve energy or on manmade objects such as fences, wires and huts.
