White-throated Kingfisher, also known as White-breasted Kingfisher, is widely distributed and a resident over much of its range. It is often found well away from water where it perches commonly on top of buildings and wires. White-throated Kingfishers dive to catch aquatic prey; in shallow water, entering feet-first and in deeper waters, head-first. They can also hover for a short while before plunging in. They are very vocal birds and the call of this kingfisher is a chuckling chake-ake-ake-ake-ake.
