Red Avadavat is a sparrow sized bird of Munia or silver bill family. They are also known as Red Munia due to its colourful plumage in breeding season. It is a very popular cage bird. The scientific name Amandava or common name of Avadavat is derived from the city of Amdavad in Gujarat from where they were first traded and exported as a pet bird. They are also known as Red Munia, Strawberry Finch and Strawberry Waxbill.
