Eurasian Collared Dove

The Eurasian Collared Dove is omnipresent all year round and is simply known as Collared Dove. It is a medium sized dove similar in length to a Rock Pigeon but slimmer and longer-tailed. With a flash of white tail feathers and a flurry of dark-tipped wings, the Eurasian Collared Dove commonly settles onto phone wires, fence posts and large trees. There are two subspecies, Streptopelia decaocto decaocto which is featured here, and Streptopelia decaocto xanthocyclus in the southeast of the range from Burma east to southern China. The latter is darker, with yellow eye ring instead of white.
