European Roller

The European Roller is a medium sized stocky bird and the only member of the roller family of birds to breed in Europe. Their population is steeply declining in large parts of Europe due to agricultural intensification. The European Roller migrates great distances – from the breeding grounds of Europe and Asia, the roller flies all the way to sub-Saharan Africa via India and repeats such long journey again in spring.
