Eurasian Thick-knee

Eurasian Thick-knee, also known as the Eurasian Stone Curlew or simply Stone-curlew, is a bird from the wader family. Despite being classed as a wader, this species prefer dry open habitats with some bare ground like dry stony pastures or dried mud. Thick-knees are so named because of their prominent thick joints on their long yellow or greenish legs. Thick-knees are mostly nocturnal. During the heat of the day, they stay hidden under bushes. At night they can be identified by their distinctive wailing calls.
